Why this wine

Assyrtiko is Santorini's grape, grown on a volcanic island in brutal heat, and Jim Barry were the first in Australia to plant it commercially. Saline, taut and lemon-driven. A genuine experiment that came off.

Description

How it tastes

Jim Barry Assyrtiko wine is a unique offering from the Clare Valley in Australia, making it a delightful outlier in the wine industry. This splendid wine exhibits an exquisite acid line along with a mineral character reminiscent of its Greek roots. It boasts an enticing aroma of fresh lemon zest and a floral hint, complemented by a tantalising palate featuring myriad flavours from zingy citrusy nuances to delightful stone fruit accords. Overall, it's a beautifully textured wine, topped off with a lingering, crisp finish, perfect to pair with exquisite seafood dishes or simply enjoyed on its own. Lifted citrus blossom and lemon aromas are accompanied by notes of honeydew melon and spice. This Assyrtiko shows great flavour concentration and a full texture, with a flinty streak of minerality.
