Description

How it tastes

A profound, powerful colour prelude the strength of this wine. Expressive aromas of wild berries and violets are complemented by subtle peppery and chocolate notes. The pronounced woody aromas are supported by a sturdy tannic backbone. This expressive varietal wine is poised for extended bottle aging.

The producer

Established in 1757, Romaneira is one of the largest estates on the region, with a total of 412 ha and 3 km of river frontage on the river Douro, of which 86 ha are planted. The vineyards are planted on terraces on the steeply sloping hills of the property: with many valleys and promontories, Romaneira contains several microclimates and various slopes with differing exposures. All of the wines are made exclusively from grapes from the estate's vineyards, a distinctive characteristic of Quinta da Romaneira wines. In 2004, Christian Seely turns his dream into reality, bringing together a group of investors to acquire Romaneira and since 2012 Andre Esteve has been Christian's sole partner Romaneira has benefitted from very extensive renovation, rebuilding and replanting. A new winery was built in 2005, the long dreamed of opportunity of Christian Seely and the original winemaker Antonio Agrellos, now succeeded by his nephew Carlos, to construct the ideal modern and technical winery in the Douro Valley, starting from scratch allowing the estate to produce wines of the highest quality.
