El Enemigo

Uco Valley, Mendoza, Argentina · Since 2009

El Enemigo was founded in 2009 by Alejandro Vigil, chief winemaker at Bodega Catena Zapata, and Adrianna Catena, daughter of Nicolás Catena. It is their high-altitude side project — single-vineyard Cabernet Franc and Malbec from up to 1,470m, made to rival Bordeaux rather than imitate the big commercial Malbec houses.

Every wine we carry from them scores in the mid-to-high 90s from named critics — Vinous, James Suckling, Tim Atkin. We carry seven, from the entry Malbec and Syrah/Viognier blends to the single-vineyard Gran Enemigo Cabernet Francs.
