Why this wine
Poggio alle Mura is the castle estate at the heart of Banfi's Montalcino holding, and this is the Brunello that carries its name rather than the house blend. Fermentation in the hybrid oak-and-steel tanks Banfi developed themselves, then two years split between large casks and barriques, gives a wine with the tannic frame Brunello is bought for and the fruit weight of a warm site. A benchmark address at a price well short of the cult bottles.
