Why this wine

980 is the top of Villa Saletta's range, drawn from one hectare at the crown of the Colline cru rather than from the estate at large. Integral fermentation in new Allier barrels and 24 months in oak could easily have flattened it; instead the blue marl keeps the acidity high and the cocoa-and-black-pepper register stays precise. Tuscan Cabernet Franc in a serious, savoury key.
