Why this wine
Cornas is the northern Rhone's most uncompromising appellation — pure Syrah on granite, dark and savage in youth. Courbis are among its best growers. Needs time, or a decanter.

How it tastes
Opulent and complex, this Cornas reveals black fruits, liquorice, and wild herbs, complemented by fresh mineral and graphite notes through a long, textured finish. Concentrated aromas of black cherry, blackberry, liquorice, wild thyme, and crushed stone, underlined by graphite and a hint of oak spice. Rich and opulent, with layers of dark fruits, liquorice, and smoky mineral notes. Vinified in stainless steel at 30–32°C for 12–15 days before malolactic fermentation and ageing 18 months in 50% French oak barrels (35% new) and 50% vats. The result is a Cornas of depth and structure, balanced by freshness and fine-grained tannins. Contains sulphites.
The producer
Domaine Courbis traces its origins to the 16th century and has been passed down through generations since the early 1900s. Today, it is led by brothers Laurent and Dominique Courbis, who oversee 41 hectares of vineyards across Cornas and Saint-Joseph. Laurent crafts the wines, while Dominique manages the steep granite vineyards. Their combination of traditional viticulture and modern winemaking yields wines of purity and polish, earning international acclaim for their balance of power and finesse.

Good with lamb and pasta. Built for the long term — decades, if kept well. Serve at 16–18°C.
