Why this wine
Áster is La Rioja Alta's Ribera del Duero estate, farming vines planted in 1990 at 780 metres in Anguix. Sixteen months in French oak, three quarters of it new, gives the Reserva its mocha and clove edge without burying the fruit. A useful comparison if you already know the house's Rioja wines, and a reminder of how differently Tempranillo behaves at altitude.
