Why this wine

Clare Valley Shiraz from three estate vineyards on red loam over limestone, picked from vines averaging 25 to 30 years old and matured 18 months with only a fifth in new oak. The result is peppery and fresh rather than sweet and heavy, which is the harder trick at this price. It is the everyday red in the range that still tastes of somewhere specific.
