How it tastes
Pale and light-bodied but with real structure: wild red berries and a mineral streak, lifted by spicy, floral notes. Refreshing and silky, with aromatic complexity and a long finish — 100% Bastardo.
The producer
Matías Riccitelli, son of the renowned winemaker Jorge Riccitelli, set up his own winery in 2009 after vintages at some of Argentina's top estates and around the world; it was named in the Top 100 of the World's Best Vineyards in 2025. This wine comes from ungrafted, low-yielding vines planted in the early 1970s at Allen and Ingeniero Huergo in Rio Negro, Patagonia, roughly halfway between the Andes and the Atlantic, where intense sunlight and cold nights at 39° south stretch out the ripening season. Bastardo is Trousseau under another name, a dark-skinned variety from the Jura. The vines are farmed on organic principles and picked by hand; 30% whole bunches go into small French oak vats with indigenous yeasts at 26–28°C, and the wine spends eight months in French oak before bottling without fining or filtration.
Food and drinking
Good with poultry and pork, risotto and cheese. Drinking well now, with a decade or more ahead of it. Serve lightly chilled at 14–15°C. Suitable for vegetarians and vegans.
