What our customers say
No one has reviewed this wine yet. If you have drunk it, we would like to hear what you thought.
How it tastes
Pure, intense dark cherry and blackberry with violet, clove and a graphite edge. The fruit is concentrated but fresh, with characterful chalky tannins and a long, mineral finish. Tempranillo 100%.
The producer
Bideona was founded in 2018 in Rioja Alavesa to make Rioja about place rather than barrel age. Las Parcelas is drawn from 300 tiny plots — average size 0.3 hectares, average vine age around 50 years, many older — of bush vines on the limestone slopes of the Sierra Cantabria around Villabuena, Leza, Laguardia and Baños del Ebro, farmed with minimal copper and sulphur and picked by hand into 15 kg boxes. Winemaker Tao Plantón fermented the sorted fruit with daily pump-overs in 12,000-litre steel tanks; 10% went through malolactic in new 300-litre French oak for softness, 20% spent four months in used French oak, and the rest four months on fine lees in steel to keep the fruit pure. A wet 2021 spring made for loose bunches, then a warm, dry ripening season gave elegant, balanced wines from the higher slopes.
